The Duke of Parma Selected for Parma EYC2027 Programme

Presented by Prof. Enrico Martines and Dr Carlotta Defenu through the University of Parma’s Call for Ideas, the project will bring Fernando Pessoa’s unpublished play The Duke of Parma to the stage in 2027.

The project “The Duke of Parma: an unpublished play by Fernando Pessoa”, presented by Prof. Enrico Martines and Dr Carlotta Defenu as part of the Call for Ideas launched by the University of Parma for the Parma European Youth Capital 2027 programme, has been selected as one of the proposals to be implemented within the thematic academies linked to the Parma European Youth Capital 2027 initiative.

The project aims to adapt and stage The Duke of Parma, a play by the Portuguese author Fernando Pessoa (1888–1935). Through a coherent and faithful dramaturgical adaptation and staging by the international theatre company Correto, the project will highlight the play's immense significance in 20th-century European literature and its cultural link with the city of Parma. This will make the text accessible to a non-academic audience, engaging citizens, foreign residents, and visitors to the city and promoting the city's cultural heritage and the work inspired by it.

The Municipality of Parma plans to award the project a total grant of €5,000, which will be paid to the University of Parma under the collaboration agreement between the two institutions.
This will enable the staging of the theatrical adaptation of The Duke of Parma, which will take place at the Teatro Lenz in Parma on 12 and 13 February 2027.
Further details can be found on the page dedicated to this project.
